Public Health Systems Indicators Project (PHSIP)

RESEARCH PURPOSE

Develop the next generation of valid and reliable indicators to measure preparation for and response to a wide variety of threats in local Public Health Systems.

SPECIFIC AIMS

  1. Develop “Adaptive System Indicators” (ASIs)
    • ASIs will provide an integrated understanding of system strengths and weaknesses.
    • ASIs will focus on optimal organizational adaptation in dynamic and uncertain environments.
  2. Compare ASI predictions of performance to actual performance
    • Years 1 – 3: focus on infectious disease outbreaks and threats
    • Years 2 – 4: include wider range of hazards (fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.)
  3. Provide data to computational models.
  4. Disseminate tools developed and lessons learned nationally.
